Will Brett- Now a two time Club Champ at White Beeches Golf and Country Club

2019 and 2023 Club Champion- William Brett

After my maiden victory in the 2019 Club Championships, I had two unfortunate injuries. One a stress fracture in my heel from soccer which inflicted plantar fasciitis and a tough year and a half of recovery through the Pandemic. The other a bad sprain in my left pinky, which for a right handed golfer was not pretty. In 2020, I managed to get to the final of my clubs ladder match play and the final of the Club Championship. That in itself was a major accomplishment due to the burning in my foot and the fact I had to ice my finger in the final after almost every shot. Due to the pandemic I was determined to play and compete and unfortunately I didn’t allow my finger and foot fully recover.

That changed in 2021, where I has able to have therapy which cleared up both injuries. 2022 eluded me competition wise, due to now having two kids and it wasn’t until 2023 that I could re-enter the state level tournaments and club championship.

This year I made the finals of the NJ State Amateur at Manasquan River, which was jeopardized by an invite to Fishers Island on the final day. Hence I didn’t make the cut, but the trip to Fishers was worth it! What a heavenly place.

This years club championship was a wet affair with the first day qualifying abandoned due to excess water. When we played the rescheduled 18 hole qualifier I didn’t play well, thanks to a week of bad sleep from my sons nightly wake ups, but I qualified seeded 5th. After easily seeing off my quarter final opponent 5&4, I played a tough scratch golfer in the rain and after two early birdies, I made two more on 15 and 16 to seal a 3&2 victory! My final was lob-sided as again we played in wind and rain which I relish being from the UK. The end result in our 36 hole match was winning 11up from being really steady without any bad errors.

Next up the Westchester Mid-Amateur at one of my favorite courses- Pound Ridge Golf Club.
